About Bernadette Marie:

Writing is my passion!  I would do it all day if I could.  From as far back as I can remember I loved notebooks and pens.  My first attempt at writing came in state issued tests.  They showed you a picture and you had to write a story.  In 7th grade they said mine was one of the highest ranked stories in the county, so they wanted those of us with such ideas to write more.  Seriously, I don't know why because I never heard anything more about it, but the fire had been lit!

Now when I was 13 I had not one ounce of self esteem, but oh how I wanted to be an actress and a singer!  Choir was as far as I could get.  But I loved movies, and so be it that was the first thing I wrote.  That was the year I got to stay home from day care and my dad gave me an old type writer.  If I couldn't be in a movie I'd just write my own.  It was a grand summer. 

The next year I began to venture into novels.  That was the summer "If Tomorrow Comes" was a mini series on television.  I was hooked! (Oh, let's not forget "The Thorn Birds," one of my all time favorites!!!)  What an even better idea!  Write a book and then have it turned into a movie.  Starring me, of course.  This was the beginning of a 22 year love affair with my first set of characters.  Oh and the thousands of hours I spent writing and re-writing and re-writing their words.  I can't even tell you how many versions of that first book there are.  But I think of it as therapy!  Yes, the woman no one today might have known as shy or lacking in self-esteem was just that, to a fault.  But I could always write a good story to take away anything that was bothering me.

As I aged and grew as a person my characters lives changed too.  I fell in love. (ah...)  I got married, had a career and went through the heartbreak of not being able to have kids (who would have known now that I have 5!)  Relationships of other people played parts in my growth as well and developed how and what I wrote about.  Oh and you have to love the internet!  It took me places I'd never been.  (My first book is set in 1933.  I wasn't around...) Those who know me know I'm a dreamer!  My mind never shuts off.  I have quite a list of titles and plots for more and more books.

So, my goal is to get them in the hands of those who like to disappear into the lives of others for awhile.  Sure, I'd love them to become a "Lifetime" movie.  And who knows... maybe I'll get to be an actress someday too.  You just never know!

In the mean time I'll write until I fall asleep at the computer.  (this happens often)  I will keep attending CRW and RWA workshops to network and better my craft.  (having peers that you idolize is very cool too!)  And thrill in the fact my son loves to write too.  What a great gift to have passed on!
