The Rom Com Movie Club
What more could you need than unrealistic romance expectations from movies, and best friends to watch them with?
Once a month, for as long as they’d been friends, Lisa, Mindy, Ruby, and Tina gathered for Rom Com Movie Club night. Facial masks, nail polish, and wine could settle the world around them as they dished on movies that made them want to love—even if the premise of happily ever after seemed far-fetched. Having been tossed around from home to home growing up, Lisa didn’t have much of an idea of what happily ever after was supposed to look like. Her friends had become her stable home, and their love was enough to carry her though day to day. But life had always thrown obstacles at her, she never considered it might throw a man her way, which would cause a rift with her best friend before her best friend’s wedding. When things went bad, it usually started a trend, and Ryan was caught in that loop when he decided to return home to live with his parents until some other opportunity came his way. He had no idea that opportunity was going to come right at him when he followed his brother into the girly chaos that was Rom Com Movie Club night, and he fell head over heels for Lisa, in a clay facial mask and wet toenails. Falling in love with her best friend’s soon to be brother-in-law wasn’t ideal timing, but when had timing ever been on Lisa’s side? Now with a man who loves her and a best friend who assumes Lisa’s out to ruin her wedding, Lisa must decide which happily ever after she wants. The one with the man and the fairy tale ending, or the love of a friend who has been there for her whenever she needed her. |

Even though Mindy hasn't updated the house she inherited from her grandmother, her house is favorite to hold Rom Com Movie Club, where she and her best friends since college gather to swoon over cheesy, unrealistic rom coms. Mindy assumed that after a relationship gone wrong, she'd never fall in love. But in the true spirit of a good rom com, the boy she had her first kiss with, now a handsome, successful man, knocks on her door. He has moved in next door, into the house his grandparents lived in. Knowing full well that getting involved with the next-door neighbor is never a good idea, it's hard to ward off the perfect romance trope when friendship blooms between them, and sweet childhood memories fuel the fire. But there's always a conflict in a good romance, and the secrets of their parents might threaten their perfect happily ever after. |

There's always the funny, mouthy, less than perfect best friend in a rom com. Ruby has always assumed her role with pride. But the sidekick is never the one to get the love interest. Since Ruby can't even keep a roommate, she's fairly sure that's the life she will continue to live. Rom coms have the best tropes, so why not let her best friend's brother move in. What could go wrong? When Jason moved back to Colorado, moving in with someone he knew seemed like the a good idea. But it didn't take long for him to fall for the voluptuous red head in the next room. Unfortunately, the unspoken rule would be to not make a move on his sister's best friend. But what if it just happened? True love can't be stopped, but unforeseen drama always threatens to tear apart relationships and friendships. Do the rom coms have it right? Does it all work out in the end? Or are those movies just full of unrealistic exceptions? Ruby is sure she knows the answer to that, but what she hasn't banked on is Jason's determination to do what's right for her, whether he gets to love her forever, or only be her friend. |
